The Technology our physiotherapists use:

Physiotherapists use electrotherapy and other modalities that reduces pain and swelling to help patients achieve long term solution to their problems. There are a variety of electrical stimulation devices used by physiotherapist each one serving a definite purpose in recovery of patients.

While each device differs from one another when it comes to choosing which one is best suited to a specific type of injury, one common theme of electrotherapy and local modalities is their use of an energy; to help with pain reduction and the healing process. The type of energy used varies from electric, to light, magnetic, sonic and heat, depending on the specific method being used.

Traction table treatment physiotherapy

Our facility offers spinal decompression treatment using our traction machine. We often utilize this modality in conjunction with select exercises to treat low back and neck pain.

We are able to see good results especially when coupled with proper exercises for the spine and hips.

This is an option for people experiencing symptoms of spinal joint pressure pain (facet arthralgia or osteoarthritis of the spine), and people with nerve compression at the intervertebral foramen (radiculopathy).

Laser Therapy (also known as phototherapy and low level laser therapy) involves the application of low power coherent light to injuries and lesions to stimulate healing to resolve inflammation and helping in pain relief, especially in dealing with chronic problems and in the early stages of acute injuries.

Laser therapy can be applied in treating soft tissue injuries in muscles, tendons, ligaments and also various joints throughout the body. It is particularly effective in reducing joint pain.

At Body Therapy we use one of the most advanced Laser devices available, in our endeavour to aid early recovery to return to active rehabilitation.
Our Physiotherapists can further educate you regarding Laser therapy.

Shockwave is an acoustic wave which carries high energy to painful areas and soft tissues with subacute, subchronic, and chronic conditions. This energy promotes healing, regenerating and reparative processes.

It’s a unique, non-invasive solution for pain associated with the musculoskeletal system.

Interferential Current, IFC, sends electrical current/impulses in small amounts through the skin surface to stimulate tissues around the injured body part to alleviate pain and promote healing.

IFC is safe and effective, often patients report it causes less discomfort than other forms of electrical stimulation, describing the feeling as tingling or “pins and needles” sensation.

IFC is indicated to reduce pain, decrease muscle spasm, reduce swelling and inflammation, increase blood flow, promote healing, improve participation in active exercises and therapy.

One of the most well-known electrotherapy modalities uses mechanical vibrations to produce focused ultrasonic energy that helps reduce pain and inflammation, particularly in dense, collagen based tissues like ligaments and tendons.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation, NMES, uses electrical impulses to contract targeted muscles in order to strengthen those muscles.

Recent evidence revealed this treatment to be useful in a number of different applications, including strength training and post-exercise recovery for athletes, testing muscular and nerve functions and of course rehabilitation for injured patients.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, TENS, uses electricity to stimulate the opioid system which naturally reduces the amount of pain being received by the nerve endings in the injured area of the body.

While this method of treatment works for people suffering from chronic pain, it has been shown to be ideal when treating acute pain.
